Let's Play 'Find Trains and Watch Them'

Terry took Friday off and we all went to the Museum of Science and Industry. Our visit was a little rocky at first. Matt thought the whole museum was his to do with what he wants. He ran around laughing, screaming and climbing over everything. Terry and I pressed on and hoped for the best. The train exhibit was the answer to our prayers. I think the boys could sit and watch the trains for hours on end. Both were calm and in awe of the lights, little towns, tunnels and bridges.
After a visit to the Smart House and a brief lunch I asked Jack what he would like to do next. He said "Let's play 'Find trains and watch them'. So we headed back to the train exhibit and watched the trains for a little while more. Matt soon started to rub his eyes so we had to cut out quickly.
The day ended with a nice steak burrito dinner (made by Terry!) on our back porch. The intense heat wave seems to be gone at the moment which allowed for a nice evening of baseball, bike riding and a brief visit to the park.

Water Babies

We celebrated Father's Day at my Aunt Debbie's house. It was a hazy but beautiful, perfect day. Matt has never been in a pool and it has been awhile for Jack so I was a little worried how the boys would handle the water. I did not have to worry for long. Both boys jumped right in and refused to get out. Matt seemed completely fearless jumping in the water if he could see me (he did not worry if I could see him). Jack was careful but really thought he could swim. I carried him around the pool while he kicked my legs (this is how he swam). Jack swam well with a kick board. I was impressed that he could steer the board and get around the pool. At separate times, both Matt and Jack fell under the water but this did not seem to affect them.
Later Uncle Ray closed the pools and we were able to sit down and enjoy dinner. All in all it was a pretty fun Father's Day for the boys.

Happy Birthday Pop Johnson

Happy birthday to our Pop Johnson! Can't wait to celebrate again on Sunday.

I have two side stories about the kids. Last night as I was making dinner, Matthew could not wait. He got a spoon and started to dig into the cereal. As for Jack, he woke up crying at 5:00 am this morning. When I went into his room I asked if he was okay and he said no. I asked what was wrong and he said "Matt ruined my work". I think this is Jack's first nightmare.

Busy Boys

Before 8:00 am this morning, the two boys had formed their own marching band and were running in circles blowing their horns. I went outside to throw away garbage and to escape the chaos but the windows were open and backyard quickly filled with their loud out-of-tune music. This lasted about 20 minutes until Matt found the crayons and Jack decided he wanted to watch one of his shows. I should have another 20 minutes of peace and then we are off to the park.

Matt's Eating Habits

Jack has always been a neat eater. Matt on the other hand is always a crazy mess. Terry took a few pictures of his undesirable eating habits.

Matt and a banana

Here is an old picture from Terry's phone. This was the highlight of his Door County trip. Terry bought up all the $0.50 beers in Sister's Bay. I think there was a tear in his eye when he was checking out.

Wheels

Wednesday was a cool, dismal, no nap day. Both boys were tired, both were read several books and both remained quiet for about 30 minutes until I heard talking, thumping and then whining. Luckily the day ended on a good note. After dinner Terry and I took the boys for a walk. Matt immediately got on Jack's bike and I feared a sleep deprived fight. However, Jack just went into the garage and got another bike which made my day. It took about 30 minutes but we made it around the block without a problem.

Trains

The boys love to play trains. This morning Jack was taking his time getting out of bed. Matt got bored and ran to the play room. As soon as Jack heard the trains he bounced out of bed and into the playroom too. It was another 45 minutes before we went downstairs for breakfast. (matt gets upset when Jack suggests breaking for food).

A Trip to the Dentist

Jack had his first dental appointment today. He absolutely loved it. He sat well and got a toothbrush at the end. This toothbrush is now his new best friend. All day he has been carrying around the toothbrush with his toad and green blanket at times.

Early Morning Hugs

Matt woke up early enough to have some alone time with dad. Some morning Matt will wake up crabby and very hungry. Today, though, he woke up laughing and cuddly. Jack woke up about an hour later and he too was in a good mood. I hope this lasts all day. It is a very cold and rainy day. We will probably be in close quarters for most of the day!

More cute pictures of Matt. We were on our way to pick up Jack from his last day of school.
